VN-Index drops 9 points amid plunging trading value
The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), lost 8.73 points, or 0.82%, to 1,055.3 on Friday, with trading value dropping to the lowest level in 17 sessions.
The major bourse saw nearly 406 million shares changing hands for VND6.67 trillion ($282.95 million), down 15% from the previous session, with up to 206 losers and 93 gainers.
Blue-chips had negative impact on the market with the VN30-Index declining 11.17 points, or 1.05%, to 1,048.74.
The banking group saw many tickers falling deeply, like VIB of VIB bank (-4.5%), STB of Sacombank (-3.3%), TPB of TPBank (-2.9%), VPB of VPBank (-2.8%), and BID of BIDV bank.
VCB of Vietcombank and LPB of LienVietPostBank were the only gainers in the group, expanding 1.6% and 1.1%, respectively.
Many other groups including securities, real estate, oil and gas, seafood and construction also closed in red.
Healthcare stocks are among a few gaining groups, with PBC of Pharbaco up 6.5%, DP1 of Central Pharmaceutical Company No.1 JSC 4.9%, and DHT of Ha Tay Pharmaceutical JSC 4.1%.
Foreign investors’ net purchase value remained low, at VND27.85 billion ($1.18 million) on the HoSE.
They mainly net bought HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat, GEX of GELEX Group JSC, VCB of Vietcombamk, POW of PV Power, and MSN of Masan Group, while net selling KDH of Khang Dien Holdings, KBC of Kinhbac City Development Holding Corp, STB of Sacombank, and DXG of Dat Xanh Group.
The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went down 2.41 points to 208.5, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market rose 0.09 points to 77.34.
