VN-Index ends four-session losing streak

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index soared 15.89 points, or 1.4%, to 1,153.85 on Wednesday thanks to strong bottom fishing demand, ending its streak of four losing sessions in a row.

The index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), lost a total of over 88 points during this losing streak.

The trading value on the major bourse fell 16% from the previous session to VND18.19 trillion ($746.18 million). There were up to 308 gainers, including 11 hitting their ceiling prices and 191 losers.

The VN30 index, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, expanded 15.23 points to 1,168.6, with 27 tickers gaining.

SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities led the VN30 basket with a 6.8% rise, followed by GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group, up 4.7%; MSN of conglomerate Masan Group 4.1%; and SHB of Saigon-Hanoi Bank 2.8%.

Two blue chips fell, namely SAB of brewer Sabeco (-1.6%) and PLX of fuel distributor Petrolimex (-1.5%).

The green covered almost all stock groups such as banking, securities, real estate, manufacturing and retail.

The securities group showed the best performance, with a series of tickers enjoying their maximum increase like FTS of FPT Securities, BSI of BIDV Securities, CTS of VietinBank Securities, and AGR of Agribank Securities.

Foreign investors were net buyers for the third straight session to the tune of VND310 billion ($12.7 million). They mainly net purchased GEX of electrical equipment maker Gelex Group and GAS of state-owned PV Gas.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, increased 2.65% to 235.84 points, while the UPCoM-Index on the Unlisted Public Companies Market inched up 0.34% to 88.73.
