VN-Index fails to conquer 1,250-point milestone

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index on Wednesday fell 7.05 points, or 0.57%, to 1,238.39 after failing to surpass its old peak of 1,250 points.

The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), represented by the index, saw up to 331 stocks losing and 192 gaining. Its trading value hit over VND29.7 trillion ($1.23 billion), an increase of 29% from the previous session, with more than 1.26 billion shares changing hands.

Securities stocks went down after a period of "hot" growth. VND of VNDirect Securities decreased 2%, VCI of Viet Capital Securities 2.38%, HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities 1.26%, VIX of VIX Securities 2.91%, FTS of FPT Securities 1.2%, and VDS of Viet Dragon Securities 2.62%. However, APG of APG Securities JSC hit its ceiling price.

The real estate group closed in the red, with VHM of giant Vinhomes down 2.62%, VIC of Vingroup 1.82%, VRE of Vincom Retail 1.69%, NVL of Novaland 4.77%, DIG of DIG Corp. 1.9%, and NLG of Nam Long Group 1.04%.

The manufacturing and aviation groups were in the same fate as VNM of Vinamilk lost 1.49%, HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat 1.22%, MSN of Masan Group 1.11%, SAB of brewer Sabeco 1.24%, GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group 1.76%, VJC of low-cost airlines Vietjet Air 2.85% and HVN of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines 1.15%.

Tickers of companies benefiting from public investment projects became the focus of attention as almost all gained. Notably, HHV of Deo Ca Traffic Infrastructure Investment JSC and FCN of Fecon Corp. hit their ceiling prices.

Foreign investors were net seller on the HoSE to the tune of nearly VND1.2 trillion after net buying VND145 billion ($49.67 million) in the previous session. They mainly net sold HPG, STB of Sacombank and VHM.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, inched down 0.08 % to 256.11 points, while the UPCoM-Index on the Unlisted Public Companies Market fell 0.1% to 94.18.
