VN-Index gains 8 points on at-the-close strong demand

Strong demand at-the-close (ATC) pushed the VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), up 8.49 points, or 0.77%, to 1,116.02 on Monday.

The major bourse saw nearly 798 million shares changing hands for VND15.3 trillion ($651.4 million), a fall of VND1.2 trillion from the previous session, June 9. There were 241 gainers and 143 losers.

Blue chips were the main support for the VN-Index expansion as their VN30 index rose 8.78 points to 1,109.63, with up to 23 tickers gaining. MSN of Masan Group, MWG of Mobile World Investment Corp., PDR of real estate developer Phat Dat, SAB of brewer Sabeco, VIC of Vingroup, and VNM of Vinamilk were the largest gainers in the basket.

Banking stocks closed in green, with EIB of Eximbank up 3.14%, VCB of Vietcombank 0.5%, VIB of Vietnam International Bank 0.43%, and VPB of VPBank 0.51%.

Tickers of retail and energy firms also showed positive performance as FRT of FPT Retail hit its ceiling price, MWG gained 3.86%, PNJ of Phu Nhuan Jewelry 0.69%, GAS of PV Gas 0.21%, and POW of PV Power 1.09%.

Divergence was seen in securities, real estate, manufacturing and aviation groups.

Among property codes, VIC, PDR, KBC of Kinhbac City Development Holding Corp, VCG of Vietnam Construction and Import-Export JSC, HDG of Ha Do Group, QCG of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai Corp, and CTD of Coteccons increased, while VHM of Vinhomes, DIG of DIG Corp, CEO of CEO Group, and DXG of Dat Xanh Group declined.

Foreign investors were net buyers on the HoSE for the second session to the tune of VND57 billion ($2.42 million). They mainly net purchased FUEVFVND of ETF DCVFMVN Diamond, SSI of Saigon Securities, and KBC

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse increased 1.77 points to 229.37, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market inched up 0.34 points to 84.53.
