VN-Index rises to 1,220 points on rallies of financial stocks

The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), went up 2.87 points, or 0.24%, to 1,220.43 on Wednesday thanks to the rally of banking and securities stocks.

The HoSE trading value reached nearly VND19.2 trillion ($808.85 million), significantly down from the VND26.3 trillion ($1.11 billion) recorded in the previous session.

The major bourse saw 237 gainers and 226 gainers, with more than 940 million shares changing hands.

Blue chips were the main force hindering the VN-Index from further gaining as their VN30 index fell 0.07% to 1,221.32, with 16 tickers gaining and 12 losing.

The green covered most banking codes, with EIB of Eximbank hitting its ceiling price; while the price of BID of BIDV went up 1.87%, CTG of VietinBank 2.14%, ACB of Asia Commercial Bank 1.09%, and LPB of LPBank 1.52%.

Among securities stocks, VIX of VIX Securities enjoyed the maximum increase, VND of VNDirect Securities rose 1%, CTS of VietinBank Securities 2.36%, and VDS of Viet Dragon Securities 1.69%. Large caps like SSI of Saigon Securities, VCI of Viet Capital Securities and HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities expanded less than 1%.

A divergence was seen in real estate, energy and retail groups. Among property tickers, blue chips like VHM of Vinhomes, VIC of Vingroup, BCM of Becamex IDC, and VRE of Vincom Retail dropped. Meanwhile, smaller caps like BCG of Bamboo Capital, IJC of Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC, and QCG of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai Corp hit their ceiling prices.

Aviation stocks closed in the red, with low-cost airline Vietjet and HVN of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines lost 0.4% and 1.9%, respectively.

Foreign investors turned net buyers on the HoSE after five consecutive net-selling sessions to the tune of nearly VND163 billion ($6.87 million). They mainly net purchased MSB Maritime Bank and CTG.

The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange was up 0.82% to 241.31 points, while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market rose 0.70% to 90.88 points.
