Japanese-invested Aeon Vietnam will open its first shopping mall in the Mekong Delta this September with an investment of over VND1,000 billion ($43 million), said general director Tezuka Daisuke.

At a press meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, Tezuka added that the Aeon Tan An shopping center in the southern province of Tay Ninh will open on September 23, with an official inauguration ceremony scheduled for October 4.

Covering 2.2 hectares with a total floor area of 27,000 square meters, this will be Aeon’s eighth shopping center in Vietnam since entering the market a decade ago.

Situated next to National Highway 1A and one kilometer from the HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway, Aeon Tan An is positioned to serve not only Tay Ninh residents but also shoppers from across the Mekong Delta.

The mid-sized mall features a modern design, including an Aeon supermarket, a general merchandise center, more than 30 fashion and sports retailers, bookstores, cafés, entertainment areas, and a cinema.

A standout element of the project is the inclusion of 11,000 trees, embodying Aeon’s “daily community park” concept to create a green, environmentally friendly space.

“Vietnam is currently Aeon’s second-largest strategic market after Japan. The group plans to triple its scale by 2030 through new developments, partnerships, and acquisitions. Over the past decade, Aeon has invested more than $1.5 billion in the country,” Tezuka said.

Beyond large shopping malls, Aeon also intends to expand with medium-sized projects in suburban areas. By the end of 2025, the group expects to open two additional malls - one in the northern province of Hung Yen and another in HCMC (formerly Binh Duong province)- as well as new outlets under its MaxValu supermarket system.

Long An and Tay Ninh provinces were recently merged to form the new Tay Ninh province, which borders Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City, and Cambodia.
