Belgium-invested industrial zone Deep C begins expansion in Hai Phong city
The Deep C service complex project phase 2, part of Deep C Industrial Zones, in Hai Phong city commenced on Wednesday in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was attended by Hai Phong Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Tho and Minister-President of the Government of the Belgian region of Flanders Jan Jambon.
Belgium-based Rent-A-Port is the investor of Deep C Industrial Zones, a cluster that includes three industrial zones in Haiphong and two in neighboring Quang Ninh province.
Deep C Industrial Zones is the biggest investment in Vietnam by a business based in Flanders.
The service complex includes offices, conference rooms, restaurants, event zones, and parking areas for serve businesses, experts, and workers at the zones. It is designed to meet the LEED gold standards for green building certification.
The first phase of the project was completed and put into operation in the first quarter of 2022. The expansion is part of Deep C’s efforts to become the first eco-friendly industrial park in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deep C Industrial Zones CEO Bruno Jaspaert emphasized that the facility will continue its sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, and economic efficiency objectives.
So far, Deep C Industrial Zones has attracted 152 investment projects with total registered capital of $5.5 billion. Belgian businesses have eight projects in Hai Phong city with total registered capital of $556 million.
On the same day, Hai Phong authorities hosted a seminar on sustainable infrastructure and smart logistics, focusing on economic cooperation between Vietnam and Flanders. At the event, Deep C Green Energy (Vietnam) Company Limited, a joint venture between Deep C Industrial Zones and Japan’s Tepco Power Grid Inc., and Polarium Vietnam Company Limited, a tenant in the industrial zone, signed an agreement on the purchase of renewable energy certificates that will help the latter operate fully on renewable energy.
On Tuesday, Jan Jambon, during his ongoing Vietnam on the occasion of 50 years of the Vietnam-Belgium partnership, had a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. He affirmed Flanders always considers Vietnam a prioritized partner and would boost cooperation in transportation, seaport logistics, high technology, renewable energy, digitalization, smart agriculture, and others.
In reply, PM Chinh urged Flanders to push the ratification of the Europe-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and import more Vietnamese goods.
