Binh Thuan vice chairman expelled from Communist Party
Nguyen Van Phong, a Party Committee member and vice chairman of Binh Thuan People's Committee, has been expelled from the Party by the Party Central Committee's Secretariat after a month of arrest.
The Secretariat on Friday concluded that Nguyen Van Phong during his tenure as the city's Party Secretary and director of the provincial Department of Finance had violated Party regulations and State laws; lacked responsibility in performance of duties; breached the law on land and bidding, causing losses to the state budget.
In mid-December 2022, Phong and six other people were put under investigation for alleged wrongdoings at the Tan Viet Phat 2 residential, service and commercial area project in Phan Thiet town, Binh Thuan province.

The Secretariat also expelled Ma The Quyen, director of Bac Kan province's Department of Education and Training from the Party for violating Party regulations, State laws, and working regulations.
Quyen was found to have lacked responsibility in leadership, direction; lacked inspection and supervision so that the units under his management violated the law on accounting and state budget, causing losses to the state budget.
Men Pholly, head of An Giang province's Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, former Secretary of the Tri Ton district Party Committee, and former chairman of the district People's Council, was removed from all Party positions due to violations in project investment and business while failing to fulfil prescribed procedures.
According to the Secretariat, the violations of the three individuals mentioned above "caused very serious consequences, angered public opinion, adversely affected the reputation of Party organizations and State agencies".
On Thursday, the Central Inspection Committee had recommended the Secretariat discipline the three individuals.
