Blue chips help VN-Index gain 8 points
The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), increased 7.87 points, or 0.74%, to 1,068.31 on Thursday, thanks to the rally of large caps.
The major bourse of Vietnam saw 205 gainers and 162 losers, with over 649 million shares changing hands for VND11.7 trillion ($498.77 million), down nearly 12% from the previous session.
Blue chips were the main support for the market, expanding 8.66 points to 1,070.76, with 20 tickers rising. Among the biggest gainers in the VN30 basket were SSI of Saigon Securities (1.56%), VCB of Vietcombank (2.37%), VHM of Vinhomes (3%), and VIB of Vietnam International Bank (3.12%).

Banking stocks showed the best performance with VCB, VIB, CTG of VietinBank, and TCB of Techcombank among the top 10 largest positive influencers on the VN-Index.
Securities codes were the magnet to cash flows, attracting nearly VND3.9 trillion ($166.26 million), accounting for over one third of the trading value on the HoSE. Notably, SSI saw a matching value of VND618 billion ($26.34 million), the highest on the bourse.
Meanwhile, the real estate group saw a divergence as CIG of COMA 18 JSC hit its ceiling price while DIG of DIG Corp. fell to the lowest level; CEO of CEO Group, DXG of Dat Xanh Group, and PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corp went down over 1%.
Foreign investors were net buyers on the HoSE to the tune of over VND104 billion ($4.43 million). They mainly net purchased HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat, VHM, and KDH of Khang Dien Holding; while net selling VNM of Vinamilk, SHB of Saigon-Hanoi Bank, CTG, and STB of Sacombank.
The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse gained 0.15 points to 213.01, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market rose 0.34 points to 80.91.
