Central Vietnam province Dak Lak to house 90 renewable energy projects in 2025-2030
Dak Lak province, formed by the merger of the former Dak Lak and Phu Yen provinces, will host 90 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 7,780.5 megawatts in the 2025-2030 period.

Among these, wind power accounts for the largest share with 42 projects totaling 2,796 MW, according to the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII).
There will be 27 concentrated solar projects with a total capacity of 4,314 MW, 12 hydropower projects (351.5 MW), three waste-to-energy projects (34 MW), and six biomass power projects (285 MW).
For the 2031-2035 period, Dak Lak is planned to have 33 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 6,183 MW, including four hydropower projects (64 MW), 14 solar projects (4,957 MW), and 15 wind power projects (1,162 MW).
Regarding projects that have already received in-principle approvals, local authorities said the Ea Tih hydropower plant (8.6 MW) is currently completing preparatory investment steps.
The KN Serepok 3 floating solar power plant (380 MWp) is undergoing investment policy adjustments, basic design preparation, and 500 kV transmission line and substation planning.
The former Dak Lak province had given in-principle approvals to six wind projects with a total capacity of 85 MW, while the former Phu Yen province approved two projects totaling 249.9 MW.
These wind power projects are now completing investment procedures in accordance with regulations to begin construction.
Vietnam's adjusted PDP VIII, approved by the government on April 15, 2025, sets a target of doubling power output by 2030, with renewables accounting for 28-36%.
The total onshore and nearshore wind power capacity is expected to reach 26,066-38,029 MW by 2030.
Vietnam's solar power potential is about 963,000 MW (ground 837,400 MW, water surface 77,400 MW, and rooftop 48,200 MW).
By 2030, the total capacity of biomass power will be about 1,523 - 2,699 MW; electricity produced from waste and solid waste 1,441 - 2,137 MW; geothermal power and other new energy about 45 MW.
The total capacity of hydropower plants (including small plants) will reach 33,294 - 34,667 MW by 2030.
The plan aims to ensure sufficient power supply for an average GDP growth of 10% per year in the 2026-2030 period, and about 7.5% in the 2031-2050 period.
