Central Vietnam province to scrap 5 wind power projects over delays
Quang Tri province authorities say they will abolish five wind power projects, starting from May this year, due to their long delays.
In 2021, the central province granted in-principle approval to six wind power projects, including the LIG Huong Hoa 2 (48 MW), the TNC Quang Tri 1 and 2 (50 MW each), the Huong Linh 5 (30 MW), and Huong Hiep 2 and 3 (30 MW each), according to its Department of Industry and Trade.
Of these, three projects - Huong Linh 5, Huong Hiep 2 and Huong Hiep 3 - have been behind the schedule over 36 months, with construction yet to be started.

The industry department said the delay of these projects will seriously affect the fulfillment of Quang Tri's wind power capacity target under the National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII) as well as the provincial investment environment.
At a recent meeting with the investors, Quang Tri's Department of Finance and Economic Zone Management Board expressed their view that strong measures should be taken against projects that are behind schedule, especially those that have not yet made investment deposits per regulations.
According to Ha Sy Dong, Quang Tri's acting Chairman, the province has directed the economic zone management board and the finance department to notify the investors that authorities will terminate the projects from May 2025.
If the investors still wish to continue implementing the projects, they must re-conduct all legal procedures and participate in bidding according to current regulations, he added.
Quang Tri now has 31 wind power projects with a combined planned capacity of 1,177.2 MW. The PDP VIII allocates a cumulative wind power capacity of 1,800 MW for Quang Tri until 2030. The revised Power Plan VIII increases the capacity by an additional 560 MW.
Of these, 20 projects have been completed and put into commercial operation with a total capacity of 742.2 MW.
