Construction stocks’ strong gain keeps VN-Index in green

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index closed the week-end session in the green color thanks to the strong gain of construction stocks.

On Friday, the index, which tracks the performance of the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), slightly increased 1.28 points or 0.12% to 1,051.81, with 221 gainers and 215 losers.

More than 788.2 million shares were traded for nearly VND13 trillion ($581.62 million), a drop of over 16% from the previous session.

The VN30-Index, which features 30 largest-cap stocks, went up 0.22% to 1,065.08, with 17 gainers and nine losers. Among the gaining blue chips were VJC of Vietjet with 4.2%, STB of Sacombank 3.2%, GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group 2.4%, and TPB of TPBank 2.3%.

On the other side, NVL of Novaland Group continued to hit its floor price, followed by VIC of Vingroup, VHM of Vinhomes, and SSI of Saigon Securities with respective declines of 3%, 2.3%, and 1.5%.

The highlight of the session came from the construction-public investment group, with many tickers closing in the purple color like CTD of Conteccons, FCN of Fecon, VCG of Vinaconex, and HBC of Hoa Binh Corp. The green color overwhelmed related groups like steel and cement.

Aviation stocks also left impressions when HVN of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines hit its ceiling price, AST of Taseco Air Services JSC expanded 6.7%, and VJC went up 4.2%.

Foreign investors were net buyers for the 15th consecutive session to the tune of over VND447 billion ($18.96 million) on the HoSE, the lowest in their 11 net purchasing sessions.

They mainly net bought HPG of steel giant Hoa Phat, STB, CTG of Vietinbank, VHM and SSI, while net selling VCB of Vietcombank, VNM of Vinamilk, BID of BIDV bank, and VRE of Vincom Retail.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went up 1.63 points or 0.76% to 217, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market slight fell 0.02 points or 0.03% to 71.6.
