VN-Index down for second consecutive session

The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), fell 7.67 points or 0.73% to 1,041.02 on Wednesday, marking its second consecutive declining session after two gaining ones.

The major bourse saw 360 losers, including 74 hitting their floor prices, and 101 gainers, with more than 920.9 million shares changing hands for over VND14 trillion ($585.28 million).

The VN30-Index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest-cap tickers, dropped 6.48 points to 1,047.58 with 12 gainers and 15 losers. Notably, VIC of Vingroup became the main support for the market as it hit the ceiling price after its subsidiary - electric vehicle maker VinFast announced it had filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the U.S.

The Wednesday session also witnessed the blue chip hitting its ceiling price for the first time in more than one year. More than 693,000 VIC shares were traded for VND665.3 billion ($27.81 million).

The securities group recorded many stocks hitting their floor prices, including APS of Asia-Pacific Securities, VIG of Vietnam Industrial & Commercial Securities, VIX of VIX Securities, and TVB of Tri Viet Securities and APG of APG Securities.

Most large-cap and medium-cap stocks in this group declined, while only VCI of Viet Capital Securities expanded 1.6% and VND of VNDirect kept its price unchanged.

A series of real estate tickers also hit their floor prices, like NVL of Novaland Group, DXG of Dat Xanh Group, DIG of DIG Corp, CEO of CEO Group, and L14 of Licogi 14. Especially, PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corp made an impression when arising from its floor price to expand 2% after the at-the-close (ATC).

The red color also covered many other groups like steel, banking, oil and gas, chemicals, seaport, cement, fertilizer, garment, seafood, and coal.

Foreign investors remained net buyers for the 13th consecutive session to the tune of over VND1 trillion ($41.8 million) on the HoSE. They mainly net purchased VIC, VHM of Vinhomes, STB of Sacombank, and DXG of Dat Xanh Group.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went down 2.87 points or 1.35% to 209.93, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market dropped 0.57 points or 0.8% to 70.45.
