Vietnam's Party Central Committee has dismissed Truong Hoa Binh, former Politburo member and former standing Deputy Prime Minister, from all Party positions.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Party Central Committee Office on Thursday.

This is the second most severe form of disciplining Party members out of the four forms, including reprimanding, warning, dismissing from Party positions, and removing from the Party.

The committee found that Binh, during his tenure as standing Deputy Prime Minister, violated Party regulations and State laws in performing his duties in preventing and combating corruption and negativity.

He also breached regulations on Party members' code of conduct and responsibility to set a good example as a leader.

These violations "caused very serious consequences and negative public opinions, undermining the prestige of the Party and the State".

Previously, on April 4, the Central Inspection Committee has proposed competent authorities consider disciplining Binh, citing his violations were "very serious".

Later, the Politburo, the country's supreme decision-making body, proposed the Party Central Committee consider disciplining Binh.

Binh, 70, was standing Deputy PM for the 2016-2021 term. He retired in July 2021.

In December 2024, he was warned by the Politburo for a number of violations while in office.

On the same day, the Party Central Committee agreed to allow Nguyen Van Hieu, deputy head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, to resign from his position as an alternate member of the 13th Party Central Committee.

The committee concluded that Hieu, during his tenure as Party chief of Can Tho city, violated Party regulations and State laws in performing his duties in preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity.

He also breached regulations on Party members' code of conduct and responsibility to set a good example as a leader, causing "serious consequences" and negative public opinion as well as reducing the prestige of local Party organizations and local government.

Last week, Hieu was warned by the Politburo and dismissed from his position as deputy head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission.
