Germany’s Blueberry Energy eyes solar power projects in Vietnam
Blueberry Energy, a solar power developer in Germany, is keen to engage in solar energy projects in Vietnam as the country seeks to raise the capacity of renewable energy.
The company also aims to implement the “German Friendship Solar Project” in Vienam. It is a model initiative combining advanced German technology, integrated battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other innovative features, Blueberry Energy's managing director Christian Schaefer said during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long on Monday.

Welcoming proposals by the German firm, Deputy Minister Long recommended Blueberry Energy work with renewable energy-rich provinces, such as Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan in south-central Vietnam, to promote its plans.
He also suggested that Blueberry Energy explore opportunities to leverage green financing available through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), in which Germany is a participant, to support their projects in Vietnam.
According to the national power development plan for the 2021-2030 period with vision until 2050 (PDP VIII), the capacity of solar power will reach 12,836 MW by 2030, or 8.5% of total.
Before Blueberry Energy, PNE AG, a leading renewable energy developer in Germany, showed its determination to proceed with the $4.6 billion Hon Trau offshore wind power project in the south-central province of Binh Dinh. PNE launched a representative office in Quy Nhon town last October to work on the project.
According to PNE, the project will be deployed on Hon Trau island, 10 kilometers off the coast of De Gi estuary, 30 km from Phu Cat airport, and about 50 km from Quy Nhon town.
The project is designed to have a capacity of 2,000 MW and be implemented in three phases. Some 50 turbines are slated to be installed in each phase.
