Japan-invested SRE to triple rare earth processing in Vietnam to 3,929 tons
SRE Vietnam, under Japan’s Tokai Trade, is seeking permission to triple the rare earth processing capacity of its factory in Vietnam’s northern province of Ha Nam.
The firm started investing in Ha Nam in 2008 and received its latest adjusted investment registration certificate last year.
Its factory covers eight hectares in Dong Van II Industrial Park. Overall, the project has an investment of VND238.3 billion ($9.5 million).

The factory now has an annual capacity of 1,198 tons and it aims to increase the figure to 3,929 tons once production is stable from June 2025. Most of its products serve production of magnetic items.
According to a recent project report, the firm will add making terbium (Tb) metal and samarium-iron (SmFe) alloy to its production and stop making ammonium chloride (NH4Cl).
One key factor that makes Vietnam stand out in the global semiconductor industry is its abundant rare earth resource that ranks second in the world after China.
This is a vital raw material for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, offering significant opportunities for the sustainable growth of the industries in Vietnam.
