Japan's Marubeni joins aluminum recycling sector in Vietnam
Japan's Marubeni Corporation has joined the aluminum recycling business in Vietnam by investing in local firm Nguyet Minh 2 Trading-Services-Environment JSC.
Nguyen Minh 2 melts a wide variety of aluminum scrap, mainly beverage cans, to produce recycled aluminum ingots, according to a release from Marubeni last week.
Recycled aluminum ingots, which are made from aluminum scrap and a valuable resource, emit only 3% of the greenhouse gases during production compared to the production of new aluminum ingots.

The demand is increasing rapidly in response to the growing need to reduce the environmental impact, Marubeni highlighted.
Marubeni sees the green strategy as one of its basic policies for enhancing corporate value and recognizes the aluminum business as a green business.
With the investment in the Vietnamese firm, Marubeni aims to contribute to a resource-circulating economy in Vietnam, ensure a stable medium- to long-term supply of recycled aluminum ingots with low environmental impact, and contribute to a sustainable society.
Vietnam is a leading consumer of beverage cans in Southeast Asia, and the amount of aluminum scrap generated is expected to increase in the future due to the expansion of middle-income demographics, according to Marubeni.
In addition, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) has been implemented in Vietnam, requesting that manufacturers and/or importers of some specified items to recycle the products and packaging.
Nguyen Minh 2, based in the Mekong Delta province of Long An, is an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)-certified recycler, Marubeni noted.
