KinderWorld wins land auction to develop international school in Hai Phong city
Singapore education firm KinderWorld has won an auction for 3.04 hectares of land to build an international school in Le Chan district, the northern Vietnam city of Hai Phong.
The winning of the auction, organized by Hai Phong city and Le Chan district authorities on January 12, 2024, marked KinderWorld’s official entry into the third largest city in Vietnam.
According to a decision issued by the municipal People’s Committee on February 1, 2024, KinderWorld Vietnam was recognized as the legal winner of the land auction for a multilevel school site with VND9.15 billion ($373,000) per year in land rental.
Upon completion, SIS @ Le Chan will offer through-train education programs from preschool to high school, with an expected capacity of 1,500 students.
It will be one of the flagship international school campuses of KinderWorld in Vietnam, featuring a smart campus with world-class facilities catered to a future-ready learning environment.
Earlier, Ricky Tan, chairman of KinderWorld International Group - the holding company of KinderWorld Vietnam JSC, met with Le Tien Chau, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee on July 31, 2023, to propose the potential education investment in the city.
At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between KinderWorld and Hai Phong authorities, highlighting the group’s vision to develop up to four international school campuses, a comprehensive vocational training center, and an outdoor education and ecotourism site in the city.
KinderWorld International Group (KinderWorld) started its first childcare center in Singapore in 1986. At present, KinderWorld is the largest owner-operator of foreign-invested international schools in Vietnam, offering educational programs from preschool to high school and university foundation.
As part of its through-train approach to education, KinderWorld also operates higher education arms, namely SISH Institute (Singapore) and Pegasus International College (Vietnam). It also has a partnership with Outward Bound Vietnam for outdoor experiential learning programs.
In Vietnam, KinderWorld International Group has a presence in eight localities. There are three preschool facilities named KinderWorld International Kindergarten (KIK) and three international primary schools called Singapore International School (SIS) in Hanoi; one SIS in Ha Long town, the northern province of Quang Ninh; one SIS in the central city of Danang; one SIS in the southern industrial province of Binh Duong; one SIS in HCMC; one SIS in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau; and one KIK; and one SIS in the southern city of Can Tho.
The group ventured into the multi-level school sector with a Singapore Vietnam International School (SVIS) in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa in 2014.
