Korea firm eyes to build Vietnam’s first zero-emission industrial cluster
South Korea’s SEP Cooperative plans to develop the Tam Lap 2 in the southern province of Binh Duong into Vietnam’s first zero-emission industrial cluster.
SEP Cooperative revealed its plan, a cooperation with Binh Duong-headquartered Gia Dinh Group, at an event on net-zero carbon industrial real estate on Thursday.
It said the industrial cluster would feature infrastructure for solar energy, processing wastewater and waste, and recycling industrial waste.
Construction of the Tam Lap 2 industrial cluster in Phu Giao district is set to begin in late 2023. The 200-hectare facility, with an investment of $200 million, is expected to attract investments from about 20 South Korean companies under the roof of SEP Cooperative.
At the event, SEP Cooperative and Gia Dinh Group signed a memorandum of understanding on building the "net-zero" industrial cluster.
Binh Duong province is pushing green industrial projects. Singapore's Sembcorp Industries plans to build the third Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III (VSIP III) in Binh Duong as a zero-emissions industrial park, the first of its kind in the country. With a total investment of $280 million, the 1,000 hectare industrial park will be located in Bac Tan Uyen district, about an hour’s drive from HCMC.
Lego Group’s factory in Binh Duong is the Danish toymaker’s first carbon-neutral plant worldwide. Construction of the $1-billion plant began in November 2022, while it is scheduled to enter operation in August 2024.
Binh Duong is a southern industrial hub of Vietnam. Its index of industrial production (IIP) inched up 0.15% in the first quarter of this year, driven by 7.17% growth of food processing industry; 11.87% of medicine, herb, and chemical industry; and 25.89% of electronics, computers, and optics sector.
