CS Wind Vietnam, a unit of South Korea’s CS Wind Corporation, on Wednesday inaugurated an $80 million offshore wind tower factory in Vietnam’s southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Covering 24 hectares, the facility's output of wind towers can reach 360,000 tons a year, making it the largest in Southeast Asia. Besides, the facility plans to expand the size of the towers it produces from 7.5 to 10 meters.

The expansion aims to serve the global wind power market, which is expected to surge by four-five times from 2025, CS Wind said.

The inaugural ceremony also marked 20 years of CS Wind’s Vietnam factory, which opened on the last day of 2003 and was also CS Wind’s first overseas factory. The plant mainly provides towers for the Southern Pacific, Asian, and U.S. markets.

The event was attended by executives from CS Wind's major partners, including Siemens Gamesa and Vestas.

The factory has expanded from a few dozen employees to over 800, and its weekly output of wind towers has risen from 10 to 120.
