Lufthansa Cargo launches Frankfurt-Hanoi freight route

Germany’s Lufthansa Cargo said Thursday that it has added a new freight route - Frankfurt-Hanoi - that doubles its capacity in Vietnam.

The inaugural flight took place on November 2 in Frankfurt. With a stop in Mumbai, the Boeing 777F reached Hanoi on schedule on November 3. After that, Lufthansa Cargo has been flying to Hanoi twice a week.

In addition to the existing twice weekly flights to Ho Chi Minh City, the cargo airline has doubled its capacity to Vietnam to 250 tons a week and is the only carrier to connect Hanoi capital city with Frankfurt.

All freighter services to Vietnam are operated with Boeing 777F aircraft by AeroLogic, a joint venture between DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo. Lufthansa Cargo's long-haul fleet consists of a total of 16 Boeing 777F aircraft, of which five are operated by AeroLogic.

At the ceremony in Hanoi, Lufthansa executives attributed the debut of the new route to Vietnam’s impressive economic growth, even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. They added that Vietnam’s role is becoming a more and more important in delivering goods to Europe, particularly electronics, automobile part, and clothes via air transfer.
