Lien Chieu seaport project in the central city of Danang has captured the interest of many large corporations around the world, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Sunday.

On an inspection visit to the project site, he said potential investors include Adani from India and Sumitomo from Japan.

Lien Chieu seaport is a key project that Danang has called for investments in. It is also one of three deep-water seaports in Vietnam, planned as a special facility capable of receiving general cargo ships and bulk carriers of up to 100,000 tons, and container ships of 6,000-8,000 TEUs.

The Lien Chieu seaport needs investors capable of implementing the project, the PM said. He urged relevant units to expedite work on site clearance, resettlement and retraining for affected local residents.

After his inspection, the PM agreed in principle on creating new land funds for expanding the development area.

He emphasized the need for careful research and consideration of materials for landfill operations. “The reclaimed land must be utilized according to the criteria for a free trade zone, with the most attractive locations reserved for business and industrial purposes,” he said.

The same day, PM Chinh checked construction progress of the Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan expressway in Hoa Vang district, which is part of the North-South Expressway.

While lauding the city for speedy construction, he ordered further acceleration towards having the expressway open to traffic before August 30 next year, contributing to realizing the target of having 3,000 kilometers of expressways by 2025 as set by 13th National Party Congress.

The six-lane expressway section will run 11.5 kilometers through the communes of Hoa Lien, Hoa Son and Hoa Nhon. This project’s total cost is estimated at VND2.11 trillion ($84.82 million), including VND951 billion for site clearance and resettlement.
