The Malaysian Official Designers' Association (MODA) in collaboration with partners from Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Morocco organized the Malaysia Modest Fashion Show on Thursday, as part of the 20th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) from September 17-20.

In her opening remarks, MODA president Jay Ishak underlined that this event is a turning point in combining Malaysia’s rich heritage with the latest global modest fashion trends.

According to Jay, this year’s event not only highlights the global impact of modest fashion, but also enhances the role of Malaysian designers on the international stage.

Eleven unique collections from Malaysian, Indonesian, UAE and Moroccan designers were also showcased, making a strong impression thanks to their sophisticated, creative and colourful designs.

Each collection consisted of eight products, with traditional motifs combined with modern fashion elements. The products also used sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, in line with the general trend of modest fashion that has been increasingly popular around the world in recent years.

Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia (MITI) Bahria Mohd Tamil was among over 300 guests at the event, including local and international guests and fashion designers.

The event also marked the first time Malaysia officially promoted and expanded the modest fashion Halal industry to the world through MIHAS with MODA as a strategic representative.

Modest fashion is a trend where women dress modestly and adhere to the rules of their faith, religion or personal beliefs. This fashion trend is very popular among Muslim women and has become an increasingly important field in the global Halal industry in general and Malaysia in particular.
