Mekong Delta province plans $214 mln coastal road
Soc Trang plans to build a VND5,000 billion ($213.6 million) coastal road that connects with other Mekong Delta provinces of Tra Vinh and Bac Lieu.
The coastal road section linking Tra Vinh and Bac Lieu will be 53 kilometers long and 12 meters wide, with 13 key bridges that will be ugraded. The other section, 18 kilometers, will be phase 2 of Soc Trang's East-West economic development axis road.
Phase 1 construction of the province's VND2,000 billion ($85.45 million) East-West economic development axis road commenced in January this year.
The Soc Trang People’s Committee said the project would break ground in 2024. Upon completion, it is expcted to help prevent salinity and high tide intrusion, and bolster connection among localities in the region.

Soc Trang is one of 12 provinces in the Mekong Delta, which also includes Can Tho city, one of Vietnam's five centrally-managed cities, together with Hanoi, Hai Phong, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The province is calling for investment in a 4,550 hectare seaport project in Tran De district, Vinh Chau town. The Soc Trang seaport project includes a seaport, warehousing infrastructure and logistical services.
