Motorbike sales in Vietnam up 21% to 3 mln in 2022

Motorbike sales in Vietnam jumped 20.5% year-on-year to more than three million in 2022, after recording sales of 2.49 million in 2021 and 2.71 million in 2020.

Fourth-quarter sales hit 831,999 units, up 9.98% year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), which includes Honda, Piaggio, Yamaha, Suzuki and SYM.

Honda Vietnam accounted for more than half of the market share. The Japanese player recorded sales of 1.56 million motorbikes from April to November 2022, up 29.3% year-on-year.

Wave Alpha continued as the top-selling semi-automatic model in November with 38,478 units, or 17.9% of the total. The best-selling automatic model was the Vision with 61,889 units (28.7%). The Winner X again topped the sales chart for manual motorbikes with 10,274 (4.8%).

According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam manufactured more than 3.32 million motorbikes in 2022, up 9.9% year-on-year. The December figures went up 4.4% to 351,100 units.

The country spent $807.15 million on importing motorbikes and motorbike components last year, up 4.7%.
