Nghiem Xuan Thanh appointed Party chief of Khanh Hoa province
Nghiem Xuan Thanh, Party chief of Hau Giang province, has been appointed by the Politburo, Vietnam's supreme decision-making body, as Khanh Hoa province’s Party chief for the 2020-2025 term.
At a ceremony to announce the appointment on Saturday, Le Minh Hung, head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, said that Thanh was evaluated by the Politburo as an officer who always completed his tasks excellently, making important contributions to the development of the agencies and localities where he worked.
Nghiem Xuan Thanh, also a Party Central Committee member, took over the position from Nguyen Hai Ninh, who was approved by the National Assembly in August to be Minister of Justice for the 2021-2026 term.
Thanh, 55, is a doctorate in economics. His hometown is Vinh Phuc province. He used to be chairman of state-controlled Vietcombank for the 2013-2018 and 2018-2023 terms.
In 2021, he was elected a Party Central Committee member, and assigned by the Politburo to be Hau Giang province’s Party chief for the 2020-2025 term.
Khanh Hoa, home to the beach town of Nha Trang, is expected to become a centrally-managed city by 2030. Vietnam currently has five such cities including Hanoi, Hai Phong, Danang, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho.
Meanwhile, general director of state-run Vietnam Television, Le Ngoc Quang, was appointed by the Politburo to be Quang Binh province’s Party chief.
Under a Politburo decision announced on Thursday, Quang, also a Party Central Committee member, will hold the new position for the 2020-2025 term.
Le Ngoc Quang, 50, holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Hanoi. His hometown is Thanh Hoa province.
In 2021, Quang was elected as a Party Central Committee member for the term 2021-2026. In the same year, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to be general director of Vietnam Television.
Previously, Vu Dai Thang, Party chief of Quang Binh province, was appointed by the Politburo as Party chief of Quang Ninh province for the 2020-2025 term, according to a decision announced on October 26.
Thang, 49, has a master’s degree in international relations. His hometown is Hanoi.
Thang used to be director of the Department of Economic Zones Management under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
He was later elected as Vice Chairman of the Ha Nam province People’s Committee before returning to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to be Deputy Minister.
In 2016, Thang was elected as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee. In August 2020, he was assigned to be Party chief of Quang Binh province for the 2015-2020 tenure. In October 2020, Thang was re-elected to be Party chief of the central province for the 2020-2025 term.
Previously, Nguyen Xuan Ky had been dismissed as a Party Central Committee member and Party chief of Quang Ninh. In September this year, the provincial People’s Council agreed to his proposal to step down as chairman of the council.
