No restrictions on rooftop solar power not linked to Vietnam national grid: Deputy Minister
Rooftop solar power systems that are not connected to the national grid are subject to no restrictions, says Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long.
Long made this clarification on Vietnam’s draft amended Law on Electricity and draft decree on rooftop solar power at a Tuesday meeting with Bruno Jaspaert, CEO of Deep C Industrial Zones and chairman of EuroCham Vietnam.
Bruno Jaspaert noted that investors within Deep C in the northern coastal city of Hai Phong sought to implement rooftop solar power projects, adding that this would contribute to Vietnam’s target of net zero emissions by 2050.
Long clarified that rooftop solar power systems were not regulated by the national power development plan (PDP) and other plans. He said the draft decree was subject to the government’s approval, while the draft law awaited the National Assembly’s approval, which was expected to happen this month.
Belgium-based Deep C Holdings is the investor of Deep C Industrial Zones, a cluster that includes three industrial zones in Hai Phong and two in neighboring Quang Ninh province covering a total of 3,400 hectares. In 1997-2023, Deep C facilities attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) worth $7.5 billion for 170 projects.
