TEPCO Power Grid to apply Japan ministry’s promotion in Deep C in northern Vietnam
TEPCO Power Grid, under Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), has been selected into a program of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) that will help the firm improve its energy management in Hai Phong city-based Deep C Industrial Park.
In an announcement last week, TEPCO Power Grid said the METI’s program, namely the Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project, aims to boost the economic cooperation between Japan and Global South countries.
Under the program, TEPCO Power Grid will focus on solutions related to renewable energy, demand response (DR), hydrogen production, energy storage systems (ESS), and energy management system (EMS). It will leverage Japan’s high technology and high-quality operations.
The company will explore solutions to maximize the local production and consumption of renewable energy and green hydrogen produced within the industrial park, utilizing DR, green hydrogen production, and ESS.

As Vietnam is pushing solar power to achieve net zero in 2050 per its Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII), energy management and ESS are necessary to respond to fluctuations in renewable energy output, TEPCO Power Grid said.
Since December 2018, TEPCO Power Grid has been investing in Deep C Green Energy, a renewable energy company for Deep C Industrial Park in northern Vietnam. The two sides focus on technology research and equipment development, aiming to provide high-quality and reliable power to tenants in the industrial park.
In 2021, in line with the high demand for decarbonization in the facility, TEPCO Power Grid introduced rooftop solar and wind power solutions to the industrial park.
Belgium-based Deep C Holdings is the investor of Deep C Industrial Zones, a cluster that includes three industrial zones in Hai Phong and two in neighboring Quang Ninh province covering 3,400 hectares. In 1997-2023, Deep C facilities attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) of $7.5 billion for 170 projects.
