Northern Vietnam province to complete site clearance for $2 bln LNG power plant in May
Vietnam’s northern province of Thai Binh seeks to complete the site clearance for its $2 billion LNG Thai Binh power plant project in May, provincial authorities said Tuesday.
The move aims to facilitate the project to begin construction in September per its schedule, Thai Binh authorities said at a meeting with the project investors, including Japan’s Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. and Kyuden International Corporation and Vietnam’s Truong Thanh Vietnam Group.

Provincial authorities plan to deliver land to the project investors in the third quarter of this year.
The project, covering 269.4 hectares of both land and water surface, is now conducting its feasibility study report and site clearance.
The project can meet its deadline of reaching commercial operation for the first turbine in 2028 and the second turbine in 2029. In September, it is set to begin building its command center and connecting traffic infrastructure, the delegation of the investors said at the event.
In December 2023, at the Vietnam-Japan Economic Forum held in Tokyo during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Japan, a joint venture between Tokyo Gas, Kyuden International, and Truong Thanh Vietnam Group was handed over an investment license to build the project.
In January 2024, the joint venture made its ceremonial inauguration. Company executives said that they planned to begin commercial operations by 2030.
In January 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh instructed the construction of two LNG-fired power plants in Quang Ninh and Thai Binh provinces to begin this year.
