Parliament appoints new state auditor general

Deputy State Auditor General Ngo Van Tuan has been endorsed by the National Assembly to be State Auditor General for the term 2021-2026.

Tuan won 92.17% of parliament members' votes on Friday.

The State Audit Office, an agency established by the National Assembly, operates autonomously in auditing the management and use of public finances and assets in line with the laws.

Ngo Van Tuan, 51, holds a master's degree in economics and is a Party Central Committee member.

During his time at the Ministry of Finance, he was deputy head of the financial policy department; deputy chief of the ministry's Office cum assistant to the Minister; and head of the department of banks and financial institutions finance.

In 2017, he was appointed deputy head of the Party Central Economic Commission. In June 2019, he assumed charge as deputy Party chief of Hoa Binh province. From October 2020, he was Party chief of the northern province.

Tuan was appointed Deputy State Auditor General in charge of the State Audit Office of Vietnam this July. The same day, the Party Politburo appointed him as the State Audit Office's Party chief.

The Politburo had earlier appointed Tran Sy Thanh as deputy Party chief of Hanoi, moving him from his erstwhile post of State Auditor General. Thanh took charge as Hanoi mayor in July.

Dien Bien province's Party chief Nguyen Van Thang was also voted by the National Assembly Friday to be Minister of Transport for the 2021-2026 term, replacing Nguyen Van The who resigned.

On the same day, acting Health Minister Dao Hong Lan was approved by the legislative body to be Minister, also following Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's nomination.
