Party Central Committee plenum to decide on many important issues

The eighth plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on Monday, discussing and deciding on big and complex issues that are very important to the completion of the committee’s political tasks from now until the end of its term in 2026.

Participants at the event held a minute of silence for Party Central Committee member and Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh and victims who died in natural disasters and fires.

During the plenum, the committee will discuss the national socio-economic situation and state budget in 2023 and plans for 2024; the state budget and financial plan for 2024-2026 and a roadmap for implementing the new salary regime.

It will sum up the 10-year implementation of the resolution of the 11th Party Central Committee’s fifth plenum on a number of social issues and policies for the 2012-2020 period; the 20-year implementation of the resolution of the ninth Party Central Committee’s seventh plenum on promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc, for wealthy people, a strong country, and a fair, democratic, and civilized society.

The committee will summarize the 15-year implementation of the resolution of the 10th Party Central Committee’s seventh plenum on "Building a contingent of intellectuals in the period of stepping up national industrialization and modernization”; and the 10-year implementation of the resolution on the national protection strategy in the new situation which was adopted by the eighth plenum of the 11th Party Central Committee.

The personnel planning for the Party Central Committee in the 14th tenure, and other important issues are scheduled to be put on table.

In his opening speech, Party general secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stated that as the plenum will decide on many big and complex issues, the Party Central Committee and participants should promote their intelligence, raise their sense of responsibility, discuss the issues carefully, and give opinions to complete the reports and schemes and make decisions at the end of the meeting.

The plenum will last until October 8.
