The Vietnam Competition Commission has fined Procter & Gamble Vietnam (P&G Vietnam) VND390 million ($14,820) for violations of consumer protection regulations.

According to the agency's decision issued on June 8 and made public on its website on June 24, the fast-moving consumer goods company was penalized for providing incomplete information to consumers as required by law and for including prohibited clauses in its general terms and conditions of transactions.

In addition to financial penalties, the commission requires the enterprise to urgently remedy the violations and proactively review, amend, and refine its general terms and conditions of transactions, as well as its consumer information practices, to ensure full compliance with the Law on Protection of Consumer Rights.

The regulator, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said P&G Vietnam had cooperated with authorities by promptly providing requested information and documents and proactively implementing recommendations issued by the commission.

The authority said the enforcement action was intended to improve transparency in business practices, strengthen legal compliance among businesses, and better protect consumers' legitimate rights and interests.

P&G Vietnam, a wholly foreign-owned subsidiary of Procter & Gamble, supplies a range of consumer products in Vietnam, including Tide laundry detergent, Downy fabric softener, Rejoice and Pantene shampoos, Pampers diapers, and other personal and household care products.
