Power Transmission Company No.1 (PTC1), a subsidiary of the EVN National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), will strive to fulfill the year's target of transmitting 129.165 billion kWh of electricity while keeping transmission losses below 2.18% this year.

The goal was highlighted at its July 1 mid-year review conference, which also laid out decisive solutions for the second half of this year, with top priority given to ensuring the safe and stable operation of the key power transmission grid in northern Vietnam.

Notable achievements in H1

A report presented at the conference showed that in H1, PTC1 faced numerous challenges, including global instability, domestic changes, and especially extreme weather - a prolonged cold winter in Q1 and an early heatwave in Q2.

However, under the close guidance of EVNNPT and with the efforts of all staff members, PTC1 basically met its assigned targets, maintaining safe and stable power grid operations.

Specifically, electricity transmission output was estimated at 59.83 billion kWh, up 3.63% year-on-year and achieving 46.32% of the annual plan (129.165 billion kWh).

A standout achievement was the reduction in power losses. The cumulative transmission loss rate in H1 was 1.93%, significantly lower than the annual target (2.18%) and better than the same period in 2024 (2.13%). Losses on both 500kV and 220kV transmission networks were below planned levels.

Grid operation management also improved, with a significant drop in incidents and all key reliability indicators meeting targets. Notably, PTC1 accelerated its digital transformation and science & technology initiatives, applying the unmanned operation model on eleven 220kV substations.

The company also piloted innovative technologies like unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) inspections, AI cameras for corridor surveillance, and online thermal monitoring systems.

Alongside these achievements, the firm also acknowledged ongoing challenges such as local overloading of lines and transformers during heatwaves, some avoidable operational incidents, and shortcomings in post-investment equipment affecting grid management.

All hands on deck for H2

In his speech, PTC1 director Nguyen Phuc An commended the efforts of all staff members in H1 and emphasized key tasks for the remainder of 2025.

He forecast continued challenges, including extreme heat and a complex storm season, which could pose risks to grid safety. Therefore, he called on the entire workforce, from company leaders to individual employees, to unite and uphold discipline, responsibility, and proactive engagement in their work.

To meet these challenges and fulfill its 2025 goals, An stated that PTC1 is committed to ensuring safe and stable operation. It will allocate all resources to maintain system stability, especially the 500kV North-South backbone, during the dry and storm season, while implementing strong measures to prevent incidents, especially those caused by human error.

It will remove bottlenecks to complete 375 maintenance items and 59 investment projects, with priority given to key northern region power supply projects.

PTC1 plans to complete the remote operation conversion of eleven 220kV substations, and continue adopting advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency, he said.

Regarding human capital as a core asset, the company’s training programs will shift focus from management-centered to employee-centered development. PTC1 will refine its salary and benefits policies to motivate and retain talent, especially in difficult regions, while fostering a friendly and cohesive work environment, he added.

A key announcement at the conference was the restructuring of PTC1's organizational apparatus, in line with EVNNPT's directive for streamlined operations, effective from July 1, 2025.

Accordingly, the Telecommunications and IT Department was merged with the Dispatching Department to form the Department of Dispatching, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. The Planning and Materials Departments joined to form the Planning Department. Meanwhile, new units under 11 transmission teams and the electrical testing and maintenance team were also set up.

These changes aim to improve efficiency, optimize resources, and build a lean, effective structure aligned with the development orientations of PTC1 and EVNNPT.

As part of the conference, PTC1 honored individuals with EVN badges for outstanding contributions to the 500 kV Circuit 3 transmission projects. These honors recognize the tireless efforts and silent dedication of engineers and workers who braved challenging conditions to deliver vital infrastructure.

Each badge is not only a personal pride but also a symbol of PTC1’s collective unity, determination, and contribution to Vietnam’s electricity sector, the company noted.

Reflecting on the first half of 2025, PTC1 demonstrated resilience in the face of challenges, achieving significant results in safe operation and project development. These accomplishments testify to the unwavering determination, unity, and professionalism of the entire staff, it said.

Building on these foundations, and with strong leadership and commitment, PTC1 is fully confident in its ability to successfully complete all assigned tasks in H2, especially the critical mission of ensuring the safe, stable operation of the national transmission grid, contributing to the sustainable development of the power industry and the country as a whole, it added.
