PVFCCo expands agricultural cooperation in Laos
As Vietnam and Laos continue to strengthen bilateral ties, agricultural cooperation between the two countries is expanding, with Petrovietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo or Phu My) seeking to reinforce the position of Vietnamese fertilizer products in supporting Lao farmers to improve productivity and develop modern agriculture.
In recent years, PVFCCo has pursued a structured expansion strategy in Laos, focusing not only on supplying high-quality fertilizers but also on transferring farming techniques, conducting soil assessments, and developing crop nutrition solutions tailored to local farming conditions and crop varieties.
Earlier in 2026, a PVFCCo delegation surveyed sugarcane plantations operated by TTC Attapeu and coffee-growing areas in the Bolaven Plateau managed by Lao-Bidina Company to evaluate soil conditions, fertilizer efficiency and crop-specific nutritional requirements.
According to the company, sugarcane fields in Attapeu using PVFCCo fertilizers recorded more uniform growth, stronger root systems and productivity gains of more than 10% compared with previous seasons. In Bolaven, field surveys are helping the company develop more targeted nutrition solutions for coffee cultivation in the region.
Building on those efforts, from May 19 to May 22, 2026, PVFCCo coordinated with TTC Attapeu, Lao-Bidina and the Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI) to implement two key initiatives in Laos: technical workshops on sugarcane cultivation in Attapeu and fertilizer demonstration models for coffee plantations in Sekong province.
The activities aim not only to promote Vietnamese fertilizer brands in Laos but also to demonstrate PVFCCo’s long-term commitment to supporting Lao partners and farmers in developing sustainable and efficient agriculture.
One of the key highlights was the performance recorded at TTC Attapeu’s sugarcane plantations. According to assessments from the 2025 crop season, fields at Sugarcane Station No.1 using PVFCCo’s full fertilizer package combined with scientific cultivation methods achieved the highest average yield in the region at 75 tons per hectare.
The company said the results improved farmers’ incomes and strengthened confidence in applying advanced agricultural practices. In the 2026 season, those plantations will continue using PVFCCo’s nutrition solutions to sustain productivity gains.
On May 19-20, PVFCCo and its partners organized technical seminars at sugarcane stations No.1 and No.3 in Attapeu, attracting local farmers, local government representatives and agricultural experts.
At the events, PVFCCo representatives introduced the company’s production capabilities, flagship fertilizer products and plans to continue providing technical support to Lao farmers. Experts also shared guidance on sugarcane cultivation techniques, including land preparation, seed selection, irrigation management, and pest control.
The company showcased products such as Phu My urea and micronutrient-enriched NPK fertilizers while advising farmers on appropriate fertilization timing and dosage to optimize nutrient absorption and improve productivity.
As part of the program, PVFCCo technicians and TTC Attapeu’s technical team conducted on-site soil nutrient testing in sugarcane fields to provide fertilizer recommendations tailored to local soil conditions and crop growth needs.
Kubota also introduced mechanization solutions for agricultural production. The integration of nutrition management, cultivation techniques and mechanization offered farmers a more comprehensive approach to sugarcane farming.
Farmers showed particular interest in live demonstrations of mechanized fertilizer application in the fields. Kubota machinery simultaneously opened planting rows, applied fertilizer directly to root zones and covered the soil afterward, reducing nutrient loss caused by evaporation or runoff during the rainy season.
The demonstrations allowed farmers to better understand how mechanized farming techniques could improve fertilizer efficiency, reduce labor costs and enhance productivity. Many participants discussed cultivation practices and mechanization methods directly with experts during the event.
Following the workshops, participants visited sugarcane plantations using Phu My fertilizer solutions at Sugarcane Station No.1. The program also included gift distribution to attending households.
Beyond Attapeu, PVFCCo worked with WASI and Lao-Bidina in Sekong province to implement fertilizer demonstration models for Arabica and Robusta coffee, two key crops with high economic value in the area.
The partners collected soil samples for detailed analysis in order to develop crop nutrition programs tailored to local conditions and provide fertilizer inputs for the coffee models.
A key feature of the program was the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence to assess soil nutrition and support cultivation recommendations. PVFCCo experts used smart soil analysis devices to quickly evaluate soil conditions directly in plantations and recommend fertilizer application strategies suited to local conditions.
At the same time, WASI specialists collected soil samples across the Bolaven Plateau, a basalt-rich region located at elevations between 800 and 1,350 meters that is highly suitable for coffee cultivation but vulnerable to nutrient runoff during the rainy season. The samples will undergo laboratory analysis to support the development of optimized nutrition programs for each production area.
PVFCCo also introduced fertilizer products designed for basalt soil and local climate conditions to help coffee plants improve nutrient absorption, achieve more uniform growth and strengthen resilience.
The company additionally promoted soil restoration solutions combining nutrient analysis technology with the use of Phu My organic fertilizers to improve soil fertility and support sustainable cultivation.
Lao-Bidina shared practical experience in plantation management, crop restructuring and the application of new cultivation techniques. The demonstration models are expected to provide a foundation for future technical training and knowledge transfer programs.
The activities in Laos during May 2026 reflect PVFCCo’s broader strategy of moving beyond fertilizer supply toward providing integrated crop nutrition solutions tailored to specific crops, soils and farming conditions.
The company said the positive results in Attapeu and the coffee demonstration projects in Sekong highlighted its farmer-centered approach focused on improving agricultural productivity through cooperation among businesses, researchers and farming communities.
PVFCCo plans to expand operations to other provinces in Laos, develop additional specialized fertilizer products and strengthen agricultural technical services for a wider range of crops.
The company said the expansion not only reinforces the position of Vietnamese fertilizer brands in regional markets but also demonstrates its long-term commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening Vietnam-Laos relations through practical economic cooperation.
