Securities, real estate stock rallies push VN-Index up 17 points

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index surged 16.83 points, or 1.44%, to close at 1,189.39 on Thursday thanks to the rallies of almost all stock groups, especially securities and real estate.

The index, representing the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), marked its sharpest increase since mid-March.

The major bourse saw up to 400 gainers and 107 losers, with over 851 million shares changing hands for nearly VND18.5 trillion ($770.8 million), a slight increase from VND17.2 trillion ($722 million) recorded in the previous session.

The VN30-Index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest-cap stocks, soared 19.81 points to 1,201.88. Among the blue chips, VIC of Vingroup had the most negative impact on the market, losing 1.2% with a trading value hitting over VND1 trillion ($41.7 million), ranking second on the HoSE.

Except VIC, all real estate stocks with large trading value gained. Of which, DIG of DIG Corp. and DXG of Dat Xanh Group hit their ceiling prices. NVL of Novaland, CEO of CEO Group, PDR of Phat Dat, HDC of Ba Ria-Vung Tau House Development JSC and NLG of Nam Long Group all increased over 5%.

The securities group rallied when many stocks expanded more than 3%. Particularly, VIX of VIX Securities hit its ceiling price. Meanwhile, SSI of Saigon Securities saw the largest trading value in the market, with VND1.2 trillion ($50 million).

Foreign investors turned net buyers on the HoSE after two sessions of net selling to the tune of over VND200 billion ($8.33 million). They mainly net purchased VHM of Vinhomes, VNM of Vinamilk and STB of Sacombank.

The HNX-Index at the Hanoi Stock Exchange went down 1.58 points to 238.07, while the UPCoM-Index at the Unlisted Public Companies Market inched down 0.12 points to 89.39.
