Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang appointed Minister of Public Security
The National Assembly, Vietnam's highest legislative body, on Thursday approved Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposal to appoint Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang as Minister of Public Security for the 2021-2026 term.
Quang is currently Deputy Minister of Public Security.
On April 25, General To Lam, then Minister of Public Security, was elected State President. After Lam was relieved of his role as Minister of Public Security, Prime Minister Chinh assigned Deputy Minister Tran Quoc To to manage the ministry until related personnel issues were settled.
Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, 59, comes from Kim Dong district, Hung Yen province. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal investigation.
His career started in the security sector, serving as head of the economic security department and deputy head of the general economic security agency under the Ministry of Public Security.
He was later appointed assistant to a deputy minister of public security; deputy chief and then chief of the Ministry of Public Security Office cum ministry spokesman.
In 2019, he became Deputy Minister of Public Security and head of the ministry’s security investigation agency.
In January 2022, Quang was promoted to senior lieutenant general. In January 2021, he was elected for the first time to the 13th Party Central Committee at the age of 56.
Currently, the Ministry of Public Security has four deputy ministers, namely Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To and Lieutenant Generals Le Quoc Hung, Nguyen Van Long, and Le Van Tuyen.
Three days ago, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, was assigned by the Politburo, the country's highest decision making body, to the position of Chief of the Party Central Committee Office.
