SK may adjust ownership at Vietnam-based pharmacy major Imexpharm

South Korean chaebol SK Group may adjust its stake at Vietnam-based pharmaceutical company Imexpharm as part of a comprehensive portfolio review across the group, including all of SK’s global assets.

Sung Min Woo, chairman of Imexpharm (HoSE: IMP), made the statement at the company’s 2025 AGM on Friday.

“SK’s internal strategic review is ongoing, and we cannot predict how or when any potential exit may be implemented, given geopolitical and market uncertainties. SK remains committed to supporting and cooperating with Imexpharm as its largest shareholder,” he elaborated.

Currently, SK Group, through its SK Investment Vina III fund, owns a 65% stake in Imexpharm.

This year, Imexpharm plans to launch 16 new products, including "first generic" drugs, which are expected to contribute 5-10% of its revenue.

The firm also plans to break ground on the Cat Khanh Pharmaceutical Factory Complex Project (IMP5) later this year, with a designed production capacity of 1.4 billion units.

Speaking at the AGM, Imexpharm’s general director, Tran Thi Dao, said the firm would continue to strengthen research and development efforts for new-generation antibiotics to meet growing market demand.

Specifically, IMP is focusing on developing treatment solutions for cardiovascular, digestive, and diabetes-related conditions, sectors that together represent a $2 billion market, Dao noted.

The company is also expanding its market coverage, particularly in northern Vietnam, restructuring its sales system and enlarging its workforce, which resulted in nearly 50% customer growth in 2024, she said.

This year, Imexpharm targets nearly VND2.65 trillion ($101.84 million) in net revenue, up 20% year-on-year, and VND493.5 billion ($18.97 million) in pre-tax profit, up 22%.

Imexpharm shares closed at VND42,800 ($1.64) each on Friday.
