State utility EVN warns of scam involving fake OTP text messages
State-owned Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has warned customers of a new phishing scheme in which fraudsters send fake one-time password (OTP) messages impersonating the utility in an attempt to steal personal and banking information.

According to EVN, some electricity users have recently reported receiving text messages from a sender identified as "EVN CSKH" containing a six-digit OTP code and a suspicious hyperlink. While the link includes the letters "evn", its domain name differs from the utility's official websites.
EVN said the messages are fraudulent and are designed to trick users into disclosing personal data, banking credentials and other sensitive information.
The utility noted that users of its new EVN CSKH customer service application, which entered pilot operation on June 15, receive OTP messages only when logging in for the first time or verifying transactions within the app. Legitimate OTP messages sent by EVN do not contain any embedded links.
EVN urged customers not to click on unfamiliar links received via text messages, emails, social media or messaging applications claiming to originate from the company.
The utility also advised users never to disclose OTP codes, passwords, bank account details or personal information to any website or individual claiming to represent EVN or local power companies.
Customers should download the EVN CSKH application only from official app stores, including Google Play and Apple's App Store, and verify the application's publisher before installation, EVN said.
The company encouraged customers who receive suspicious messages to contact the customer service hotline of their regional electricity corporation to verify the information and report potential fraud.
The warning comes amid a rise in increasingly sophisticated online scams in Vietnam targeting consumers through fake websites, impersonation messages and fraudulent links designed to harvest financial and personal data.
Customers can scan the QR code to download the EVN Customer Service app from the official app stores for iOS and Android operating systems.
Upon discovering suspicious or fraudulent messages, customers can contact the customer service hotline of electricity corporations for assistance and information verification.
