Sweden’s Ericsson and Hanoi-based Postal and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) will collaborate in preparing Vietnamese students to drive the country’s digital transformation with 5G technology.

Ericsson and PTIT signed a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) for the cooperation on Wednesday. Ericsson will offer its Ericsson Educate platform to PTIT students, enabling access to a wide range of digital learning resources.

The Ericsson Educate platform is a comprehensive digital skills portal designed to provide learners with foundational knowledge in key technology areas including 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, automation, blockchain, cloud computing, data science, the Internet of Things (IoT), and telecommunications.

This collaboration marks Ericsson’s second formal engagement with an educational institute in Vietnam under the "Ericsson Educate" program.

As the country looks to becoming a digital economy with 5G, upskilling students on 5G and the latest technologies will enable Vietnam to leverage the full potential of 5G and drive the digitalization of the country, Ericsson said in a statement.

Ericsson will also undertake research collaboration with the institute in the areas of AI and automation and offer PTIT students work integrated learning (WIL) opportunities, such as industry projects and internships.

Rita Mokbel, head of Ericsson Vietnam, emphasized, “Ericsson’s collaboration with PTIT is a significant step towards developing a skilled workforce which is critical for Vietnam’s digital transformation. Through this partnership, Ericsson aims to contribute towards the creation of a robust ecosystem that supports Vietnam’s digital future.”

On the same day, PTIT, under Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications, launched its AI faculty, becoming the first university in Vietnam to have such a department.

The faculty will offer courses related to machine learning and applied AI, based on training programs of Stanford University and Carnegie Mellon University. The course also features lessons given by experts from Nvidia, Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, VinAI, FPT, Samsung, and Naver.
