Taiwan computer hardware firm begins work on $75 mln Vietnam project
Taiwan-headquartered Cooler Master, a global computer hardware giant, especially in cooling devices, has begun building a $75 million factory in the northern province of Bac Ninh.
In a Saturday announcement, local business CJSC, a design & build contractor, said the project will cover 10 hectares at Gia Binh Industrial Park. It said the move was part of Cooler Master’s global expansion plans, the CJSC added.
Bac Ninh has been a leading province in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) this year, ranking third as of May 20 with $1.06 billion, up 141.4% year-on-year.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam's total registered FDI in the year to May 20 reached $11.07 billion, up 2% year-on-year.
Bac Ninh’s index of industrial production grew 0.05% year-on-year in the first five months of this year, breaking the 0% benchmark after months of underperforming.
China including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau has become a new major FDI source for the province alongside South Korea, provincial authorities say.
Goertek, a major supplier to Samsung and Apple, is studying an $800-million investment in Bac Ninh province for high-precision production of printed circuit boards.
Several other investment decisions in the province were announced last month.
These included Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., also known as Foxconn, registering an additional investment of $380 million; and the granting of a $700 million investment certificate to Talway, a Chinese manufacturer of automotive battery equipment and cable products.
Viglacera, Vietnam's leading building material producer and industrial real estate developer, welcomed investments of $210 million from four Chinese businesses into its industrial park in the province; and Victory Giant Technology, a Chinese electronics major, informed the Shenzhen Stock Exchange that it plans to invest $260 million in a production base in Bac Ninh.
