Vietnam carmaker VinFast, Vayyar team up to enhance safety, driving experience
Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast and Israeli semiconductor company Vayyar Imaging have partnered to improve driving experience and safety by integrating in-cabin radar technology into VinFast’s VF 6 and VF 7 models.
The technology helps detect and alert when children are left in the car, ensuring a safer journey for passengers, said the two firms’ announcement from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023) on January 5-8 in Las Vegas, Nevada in the U.S.
In the partnership, VinFast will integrate Vayyar’s in-cabin 4D imaging radar technology into its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs. The Vayyar platform, with its classification-based Child Presence Detection (CPD) system, will protect all passengers from preventable car tragedies.
The system classifies each seat’s occupant, triggering an alarm only if one or more children are left in the car, according to Vayyar. The technology also prevents false alarms that negatively impact user experience.
“VinFast relentlessly innovates forward and connects intelligence globally to provide its customers with excellent driving experience and uncompromising safety. I am delighted to have Vayyar join us on this journey,” said Stuart Taylor, VinFast Head of Smart Services Institute.
“I believe Vayyar’s best-in-class solution will contribute to our goal of accelerating global transition to sustainable transportation by making electric vehicles more compelling and exciting for everyone,” Stuart Taylor, VinFast Head of Smart Services Institute, said from Las Vegas.
VinFast said it continues to research a range of additional features based on the Vayyar platform’s point cloud layer, such as Seat Belt Reminder, Intruder Alert, and occupant classification for airbag deployment that will further enhance its smart electric vehicles’ safety standards.
In the longer term, both companies are exploring options to expand the partnership to other vehicle models and additional features for in-cabin sensing, as well as a range of lifesaving ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system) applications.
Also at the CES 2023 in Las Vegas, VinFast announced the specifications of the VF 6 and VF 7, with early reservations for both to begin this March. These two models are in B and C segments, respectively, in VinFast’s full range of EVs introduced last year.
The VF 6 and VF 7 have stylish designs crafted by VinFast and world-famous car designer Torino Design. Both models will be available in Eco and Plus versions.
The VF 6 has a maximum range on a full charge of 248 miles for the Eco version, 174 horsepower and 184 pound-foot torque. The Plus version has a maximum range on a full charge of 237 miles, 201 horsepower and 228 pound-foot torque.
Slightly bigger than the VF 6, the VF 7 has a maximum range on a full charge of 280 miles for the Eco version, with power checking in at 201 horsepower at 228 pound-foot of torque. The Plus version has a maximum range of 268 miles, and 348 horsepower with 368 pound-foot of torque.
Both models will be equipped with level 2 ADAS features for all Eco and Plus versions and technology features such as virtual assistant and mobile application C-app.
