The Vietnam Education Publishing House on May 12 held a conference titled “Anti-piracy training for 2025" in Danang city.

Attendees included Nguyen Tien Thanh, chairman of the board of members and general director; Pham Vinh Thai, a board member and editor-in-chief; Lieutenant General Nguyen Khac Khanh, senior advisor; and other board members, namely Pham Van Thang, Nguyen Van Tung, and Nguyen Manh Hung.

Also in attendance were deputy general directors Nguyen Chi Binh and Le Huy, the chief accountant, the chief of office, deputy editors-in-chief, and leaders from departments, regional publishing houses, and member companies.

The purpose of the conference was to comprehensively review anti-piracy efforts in the past year and implement Vietnam Education Publishing House’s anti-piracy strategy for 2025.

Piracy and the distribution of counterfeit educational materials have long plagued the publishing industry in Vietnam. Given the high volume of printed textbooks, the counterfeiting of these materials poses not only a major threat to the society but also causes significant reputational and financial damage to Vietnam Education Publishing House.

15 counterfeit book cases uncovered

Nguyen Tien Thanh, chairman and general director, emphasized Vietnam Education Publishing House's strong commitment to combating book piracy and the spread of counterfeit publications.

He noted that in 2024 alone, Vietnam Education Publishing House, working closely with law enforcement and regulatory bodies, uncovered 15 major cases involving counterfeit books in eight localities. These counterfeit materials had a total face value nearing VND60 billion ($2.3 million).

“As we look ahead, the situation with counterfeit and pirated books is expected to become more complex. That’s why it’s crucial for our entire organization to stay vigilant and continue collaborating closely with authorities to stop the spread of fake educational content,” added Thanh.

Strengthening anti-piracy measures for 2025

At the conference, participants discussed the overall state of anti-piracy work in 2024 and reviewed plans for 2025. Key topics included how to identify pirated books, the current types of anti-counterfeit stamps in use, and the rollout of QR codes and other authentication tools for official publications.

This 2025 anti-piracy training conference serves to raise awareness among staff and equip them with practical measures to combat piracy and the distribution of counterfeit educational materials.

For years, the Vietnam Education Publishing House has maintained a proactive stance against book piracy, regularly collaborating with authorities and investing in the professional development of its staff to strengthen the fight against fake publications.
