Vietnam increases power sources to 82,400 MW in 2024: state utility EVN
Vietnam had increased its power sources by 1,500 MW to 82,400 MW as of end-2024, state utility Vietnam Electricity said at a 2024 reviewing event on Monday.
The figure was the highest in Southeast Asia, EVN added.
In 2024, EVN's electricity sales grew 9.24% year-on-year to 276.4 billion kWh, said EVN general director Nguyen Anh Tuan. Energy saving solutions of EVN's subsidiaries led to a saving of 6.51 billion kWh, or 2.46% of the electricity sales, he added.
Vietnam's total power generation, including imported power, reached 308.73 billion kWh in the year, up 9.9% year-on-year.
Last year, EVN disbursed investments of VND112,892 billion ($4.45 billion) for power generation and power grid projects, exceeding the year's target by 10.8%.
For power generation in 2025, EVN strives to complete and connect to the grid many projects, including the expanded Hoa Binh hydropower, the expanded Tri An hydropower, and Quang Trach 1 thermal power. It also aims to approve the feasibility study of LNG Quang Trach II power plant this year.
Regarding power transmission, EVN plans to initiate 208 projects between 110 and 500 kV and connect 281 projects to the national grid.
EVN aims to supply 300.9-305.6 billion kWh of electricity sales in 2025, higher than the result of 276.4 billion kWh in 2024.
