Ha Long Shipbuilding Company, a shipbuilder based in Vietnam’s northern province of Quang Ninh, last weekend launched a commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) per order from Dutch firm Damen.

The ship, numbered 8720-YN552205, is the first of the 14 vessels that Damen ordered from Ha Long Shipbuilding Company.

It is 88.6 meters long, 19.7 meters wide, eight meters high, and has a gross tonnage of 6,700.

Both sides signed contracts in 2022, 2023, and 2024 for the vessels priced at EUR10 million ($10.9 million) each. This is the first time that Vietnam has built such a vessel for export.

Speaking at the lauching ceremony, Ha Long Shipbuilding Company's general director Nguyen Tuan Anh said the firm has started building seven vessels for the order.

The launched vessel saw its final works done during super typhoon Yagi in September, the strongest to occur in Vietnam in over three decades. The firm overcame the natural disaster to finish it, he added.
