Vietnam the largest source country for Adidas footwear

Vietnam has returned as the largest source country for Adidas footwear, accounting for 38% of the German athletic apparel and footwear corporation's total output in 2023, up from 32% the previous year.

It had ceded the top source spot to Indonesia in 2022 which made up 34% of Adidas’s total footwear output that year. Indonesia's figure in 2023 was 32%.

China was the third-biggest source country in 2023 with 14%, versus 16% in 2022.

Adidas said its footwear manufacturing partners produced approximately 311 million pairs in 2023, down 25.8% year-on-year from 419 million in 2022. Up to 97% of its footwear products were produced in Asia in 2023.

Regarding apparel products, Adidas’s output in 2023 was 328 million units, down 32% year-on-year. It sourced 91% from Asia last year.

Cambodia was the largest source country with 23%, up from 22% in 2022. Vietnam was the second-largest with 20%, up from 17% in 2022; followed by China with 15% in 2023, down from 17% in 2022.

In Vietnam, Adidas sourced its products from 17 factories, the highest number among all countries. Other top positions belonged to China with 14 factories, Indonesia with 13, and Cambodia with 10.

Adidas noted that the wages paid by factories in Vietnam surpassed the minimum wages regulated by the government by 72-78%, and 18% above the benchmark of the Global Living Wage Coalition.
