A consortium comprising Vietnamese builder CC1 and a Chinese group will construct the main package of the long-delayed 110-MW Na Duong II thermal power plant in northern province of Lang Son.

CC1 and members of the CC1-DR contractor consortium, featuring China-based DR AZ Group Company Limited, signed the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract last week.

The consortium will carry out 85% of the package worth VND3,315 billion ($136.3 million) in 30 months. The package includes a CFB boiler, a turbine and a generator that will operate 6,500 hours a year.

Vinacomin Power Holding Corporation, under the state-run Vietnam Coal and Minerals Group (Vinacomin), is the project investor. The project was initiated in 2007 and featured in power development plans (PDP) VI, VII and VIII.

The $192-million project has faced several problems related to selecting contractors and acquiring licenses.

CC1 is a veteran in Vietnam’s electricity sector, building facilities with a combined output of 22 billion kWh a year. Notable projects that it has participated in include: the 600-MW Nghi Son 1 and the 1,200-MW Nghi Son 2 thermal power plants in Thanh Hoa province; the Van Phong 1 thermal power plant in Khanh Hoa province; the TT1 and TTC2 solar power plants in Tay Ninh province; and the Khai Long wind power plant in Ca Mau province.
