Viettel Cloud ecosystem launched
Military-run telecom giant Viettel launched Friday its Viettel Cloud ecosystem, becoming the largest cloud computing service provider in Vietnam.
The ecosystem includes data centers, technology platforms, cloud computing software and services, security technologies, operation and governance services.
Viettel Cloud owns the biggest data center system in Vietnam with 13 centers, housing more than 9,000 racks on 60,000 square meters of floor space.
A Viettel representative said Viettel will pour an additional VND10 trillion ($414 million) to expand the ecosystem’s scale to 17,000 racks by 2025, and increase its investment to VND40 trillion ($1.66 billion) for 34,000 racks by 2030.
“All data center infrastructure meets the ANSI/TIA-942-B:2017 Rated-3 Constructed Facilities standard, which is used to evaluate all aspects of a physical data center including location, architecture, security, fire safety, electricity, mechanics and telecommunications,” he said.
Viettel Cloud presents an ultra-broadband connection with the largest fiber optic backbone in Southeast Asia, five international undersea cable routes with the largest capacity in Vietnam, and more than 500,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables covering all 63 provinces and cities nationwide.
At the launching ceremony, chairman and general director of Viettel Group Tao Duc Thang said that Viettel has made many achievements contributing the target of every citizen having a smartphone and broadband internet services, and every household a fiber optic cable.
"Now, Viettel has a new mission: striving for each Vietnamese citizen, each Vietnamese household, and each Vietnamese organization or enterprise to have a data warehouse on a cloud computing platform located in Vietnam, which is researched, deployed, and managed by Vietnamese engineers," Thang said.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung stressed that the launch of Viettel Cloud is a strong commitment made by Viettel in building modern digital infrastructure in Vietnam.
“Vietnamese businesses should use made-in-Vietnam cloud computing infrastructure,” he said, asking Viettel to quickly build world-class data centers and clouds as infrastructure for the country's digital government and economy.
In its digital economy development strategy, Vietnam sets a target to have 100% of government agencies using cloud computing platforms by 2025, and 70% of businesses using cloud computing services provided by domestic firms.
Currently, Vietnamese enterprises account for only 20% of the cloud computing market share while 80% belongs to foreign companies.
