VN-Index up 44 points, strongest gain in 6 months

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rose nearly 44 points or 4.22% to 1,080 on Friday, the strongest increase since May 17.

On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), represented by the index, trading dropped 17.9% to VND17,924 billion ($735.7 million), with 1 billion shares changing hands.

The major bourse saw 361 gainers and 92 losers.

All 30 tickers in the VN-30 basket gained, with eight closing at their ceiling prices. They were Khang Dien House’s KDH, VIB of Vietnam International Commercial Bank, CTG of VietinBank, HPG of Hoa Phat Group, SSI of Saigon Securities Inc., STB of Sacombank, VHM of Vinhomes, and PDR of property developer Phat Dat.

Other gaining blue chips include MWG (Mobile World), VCB (Vietcombank), BID (BIDV bank), MBB (Military Bank), VRE (Vincom Retail), TCB (Techcombank), MSN (Masan Group), and GVR (Vietnam Rubber Group).

Foreign investors remained net buyers to the tune of VND2,168 billion ($89 million) on the HoSE. They mainly purchased HPG of steelmaker Hoa Phat Group, VHM of Vinhomes, STB of Sacombank, VIC of Vingroup, and CTG of VietinBank.
