The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), surged 23.75 points or 2.51% to 971.46 on Friday, marking its strongest gain this week.

There were 380 gainers, including 60 hitting their ceiling prices, and only 72 losers.

The major bourse saw over 662 million shares changing hands for VND9.7 trillion ($391.13 million), an increase of VND1.4 trillion from the previous day.

Finance and banking stocks were the biggest magnets to cash flows with nearly VND3.2 trillion ($129.2 million) in trading value, followed by real estate and industry tickers.

Sacombank's STB took the lead with VND462 billion ($18.56 million), followed by HPG of steel giant Hoa Phat, SSI of Saigon Securities, and CTG of Vietinbank.

Most of the groups recorded strong gains in the Friday session. Securities stocks were the best performers with many large and medium caps hitting their ceiling prices like SSI of Saigon Securities, VND of VNDirect Securities, VCI of Viet Capital Securities, and HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities.

Even small caps like APS of Asia-Pacific Securities and APG of APG Securities also made maximum expansion.

While almost all real estate tickers gained, NVL of Novaland Group and PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corporation continued to hit their floor prices, with 33 million and 75 million shares waiting for buyers, respectively.

Two property blue chips VIC of Vingroup and VHM of Vinhomes rose 6.6% and 4.4%, becoming the main drivers for the HCMC bourse gain.

The green color also covered banking, steel, and oil and gas sectors.

Foreign investors remained net buyers to the tune of about VND962 billion ($38.94 million) for the fifth consecutive session on the HoSE, mainly purchasing PNJ of Phu Nhuan Jewelry, CTG, HPG and VNM of Vinamilk.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went up by 5.55 points or 2.9% to 196.77, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market rose 0.9 points or 1.33% to 68.41.
