AI helps sellers offer competitive prices on e-commerce platforms: Lazada trainer

When sellers carry out promotions on e-commerce platforms, artificial intelligence can help ensure their prices remain competitive, says Nguyen Tran Tin, a seller and trainer at Lazada Academy.

He pointed out other advantages of using AI an event in Ho Chi Minh City last Friday when Lazada introduced new generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) features in its shopping app.

“We are planning to use AI to detect packaging errors,” he said, advising businesses to prepare their inventory in advance for the upcoming promotion season.

Packaging issues, such as missing or incorrect items, can be problematic and should be avoided, he added.

Tin noted further that AI was particularly well-suited for engaging with Gen Z, suggesting that it understood this demographic better than some business leaders who may struggle to keep up with youth trends.

He also expressed satisfaction with Lazada’s implementation of AI to enhance product information and create promotional banners for sellers.

A report titled "Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in E-Commerce in Southeast Asia," a collaboration between Lazada and Kantar, was released at the event.

The report, based on a survey of over 6,000 consumers across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, aimed to gauge consumer trust, usage trends and expectations for AI in e-commerce, providing strategic insights to help Lazada optimize its Gen AI features for both consumers and sellers.

Lazada's Gen AI offerings include the AI Personal Shopping Assistant, known as AI Lazzie; smart product recommendations; AI-generated product information; and AI-generated virtual models. These features have positioned Lazada as a leader in the rapidly growing e-commerce sector in Southeast Asia.

The meeting also noted that Lazada was utilizing Alibaba's AI translation tool, Marco MT, to meet diverse language needs across Southeast Asia.

This tool, based on Alibaba's proprietary Qwen model, helps sellers create product pages tailored to their target markets. The enhanced version of Marco MT employs large language models that understand context, including cultural and industry-specific terminology.
